A Vision of a World of Hemp

There is a theory that optimizing use of hemp in modern society would be a startingly effective move in terms of our manufacturing capabilities. Many people do not grasp the range of benefits that would be realized. Here is a full vision presented by John Roulac in his book Hemp Horizions: The Comeback of the World's Most Promising Plant.

Hemp nutrition is not about hype

When you select poppy seed buns at the bakery, are you starting down the slippery slope of opium addiction? When you munch on an energy bar or a breakfast cereal that contains hemp seed, are you in danger of getting high on marijuana?

As a registered dietitian I can assure you that in both cases, the answer is a definite no. Even though the poppy seeds come from a poppy plant, it is the non-narcotic variety. Similarly, hemp seed that is used by the food industry comes from seeds incapable of germination and that have no drug effect.

Hemp

If a team of scientists held a press conference and announced a new superfood–one that is more nutritious than its alternatives, packed full of much needed essential fatty acids, high yielding and easy to grow–it would send the stock and money markets into a feeding frenzy. Media of all kinds would pounce on the story. The superfood would enlist a supporting cast of nutritionists and dieticians and quickly pick up celebrity endorsements.

Hemp Seed Protein

Hemp seeds have the most complete edible and usable protein in the vegetable kingdom. Although soybeans are said to contain more, much of it is unusable by the human body. Proteins serve such functions as acting as enzymes, antibodies, and the structural components of tissues, hormones, and blood protein. The main function of dietary protein is to supply the building blocks called amino acids so that they can be used to reconstruct other proteins needed for the growth and maintenance of body tissue.

IT’S A GRAY AREA: Let’s revitalize the hemp industry!

“Hemp” is the name that is commonly used for the industrial (non-drug) usage of the cannabis plant, otherwise known as marijuana. The use of cannabis for hemp products goes back thousands of years, to the degree that the ancient Greek word for “canvas” was the same word as “cannabis.”
